THIS year’s AFTA Sunday Mail Holiday Expo will prove to be a Turkish delight for one lucky visitor with a fabulous trip for two on offer.

In three decades as South Australia’s largest travel fair, with dozens of experts offering inspiration and information on all forms of travel, the expo has given away almost 40 international trips and plenty of domestic holidays.

This year there is again a terrific holiday on offer – a return trip for two to Turkey, flying Adelaide to Istanbul return with Malaysia Airlines (taxes at winner’s expense) plus travel insurance with QBE.

The tour itself is the Globus 14-day Turkish Delight package, providing a total prize value of $8000 a couple.

The Globus tour takes in highlights such as Istanbul, Bursa, Ankara, Cappadocia, Konya, Antalya, Pamukkale, Izmir and the Troy area.

The time in Istanbul includes visits to the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Seraglio and the Grand Bazaar.

Then cross the Bosporus into Asia Minor and continue to Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, where sightseeing includes the Green Ottoman Complex and the Great Mosque.

Travelling via Gordion, where Alexander the Great cut the proverbial knot and thus opened the way to Asia, you continue on to Earth Tumulus.

In Ankara, capital of Turkey since 1923, visit the Mausoleum of Ataturk and the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations.

Explore the exotic Caravansary of Agzikarahan and then visit Cappadocia to see the early Christians’ Rock Chapels and the underground city of Ozkonak.

Also tour the fascinating archaeological site of Hierapolis in Pamukkale, then discover the intriguing history of Ephesus and Troy and pay respects at the World War I cemetery on your way back to Istanbul.

To be in the running to win, see the entry form in next week’s Escape section, which will also include a special supplement on the AFTA Sunday Mail Holiday Expo.

Then collect the tokens which will appear the following Monday to Friday on the weather page of the The Advertiser.

The 2012 AFTA Sunday Mail Holiday Expo will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, North Tce, starting on Friday, February 3, from 4-8pm and continuing on the Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm. Entry is $9, seniors/concession $8. More than 150 exhibitors will offer the best in holiday ideas, from major world tours to weekend getaways, at this year’s expo.

The diverse range of exhibitors will include national tourism organisations, major airlines, luxury resorts, highly reputable travel companies and domestic tourism commissions offering holiday ideas ranging from sun-soaked beach breaks to ski adventures, from escorted coach tours to rail and self-drive breaks, from European vacations to Asian, African, American and Antarctic escapes.

There also will be plenty of information about ancillary travel needs, health, cameras, insurance, luggage, maps, clothing, gadgets, money and more.

The Expo is presented by Turnstyles Exhibitions & Events on behalf of SA members of the Australian Federation of Travel Agents and is sponsored by The Sunday Mail.
