She pushes open a door, re­veal­ing a long hall of vin­tage fair­ground won­ders. Carousels packed with goats, boats and horse-drawn car­riages are over­looked by stat­ues of Nor­man knights and an arm­less wooden mermaid. A curlicued, pas­tel-coloured pipe or­gan belts out a tune while nearby, vis­i­tors work madly to speed up the pedal-pow­ered bi­cy­cle carousel.
