Modernista makeover

Sunday Mail - Travel/Escape - - SPAIN -

At long last, two architectural treasures in L’Eixample have opened their doors to visitors: Casa Amatller (www.amatller .org) and Casa Lleo Morera (casalleomorera.com). Casa Amatller, one of Puig i Cadafalch’s most striking bits of Modernista fantasy, combines Gothic window frames with a stepped gable borrowed from Dutch urban architecture. Casa Lleo Morera is Domenech i Montaner’s 1905 contribution, with Modernista carving outside and a bright, tiled lobby with floral motifs.
