Santillana Del Mar
Despite its big stark squares and overbearing monastery, La Colegiata, Santillana Del Mar is quite lovely.
There are no cars so it’s a pleasant stroll around the cobbled streets lined with pretty and well-preserved stone houses dating from the 15th century.
Inside, the La Colegiata is more attractive than outside. It houses the tomb of the medieval martyr, St Juliana after whom the town is named. Shop here for handcrafted leather and quaint bric-a-brac. Santillana-del-mar.com
