ASO rings in festive season

Sunday Mail - - NEWS - MATT GILBERTSON

IT’S as Christmas as sleigh rides but this year Adelaide will get an extra special treat when the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra performs Handel’s Messiah with Christian Curnyn, a Handel specialist from the UK, directing the orchestra for the first time.

“After Jingle Bells, you’d be hard-pressed to find a piece of music more synonymous with Christmas than the Hallelujah! Chorus from Handel’s Messiah which is, after all, the world’s most performed piece of classical music,” ASO managing director Vincent Ciccarello says.

“It’s the perfect piece for the ASO to end what’s been a fantastically busy year.”

But it’s not just in Elder Hall where the ASO will be spreading Christmas cheer this holiday season.

On Friday, the ASO Brass Ensemble will perform in Rundle Mall at 5.45pm to entertain Christmas shoppers.
