Teen girl faces murder charge over stabbing
A TEENAGE girl has been arrested and charged over the fatal stabbing of a woman inside a house in Kilburn.
Police and paramedics were called to the house on Goodman Ave, just after 5pm on Friday.
Ambulance crews treated Maria Luis, 61, but she died at the scene from stab wounds.
Police say Ms Luis lived at the property with her husband and was well known in the local community.
Major Crime detectives arrested an 18-year-old Kilburn woman at her home about 11pm on Friday and she was charged with murder yesterday morning. The woman was refused bail and will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Inspector Billy Thompson, acting officer in charge of Major Crime, said police were appealing for CCTV or dashcam footage that captured the Goodman Ave area between 3pm and 5pm on Friday.
“We do believe (the alleged offender and Ms Luis) may have been known to each other but that’s yet to be categorically confirmed,” Insp Thompson said.
“We believe the accused person may have been at the address before.”
Detectives and SES volunteers were back at the scene just after 9am yesterday to search for a bladed weapon.
Police focused exclusively on the home where the victim was stabbed, while SES volunteers scoured the front yards of neighbouring homes for a knife.
They checked roofs, gutters, bins and bushes.
A nearby resident said he knew the victim and that she was a “really nice lady”.
“She never had an argument with anybody around here,” he said. Anyone with information about the murder should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
SEARCH: Detectives and SES volunteers search a neighbouring home for evidence yesterday. INSET: A man is comforted on the street on Friday.
INVESTIGATION: Police at the scene and flowers left outside the home.
