There’s a hole lot of con­fu­sion

This strange gad­get was re­cently found at the South Ho­bart Tip Shop.

Stand­ing al­most half a me­tre in height, it ap­pears to be made of brass, mak­ing it quite the sturdy im­ple­ment.

The head com­prises a cir­cu­lar disc cov­ered in fil­ter-like holes on the up­per side.

This is at­tached to a long stand, about three-quar­ters up which is a screw af­fixed to the pole.

The base is built for sta­bil­ity: wide, flat and solid-look­ing. A small hole is vis­i­ble on top of the me­tal dome.
