He said with many homes hav­ing open fires, this de­vice was an ef­fec­tive and ef­fi­cient use of heat from the fire to cook meat, which would be skew­ered on the three-pointed prongs.

“The unit was hooked onto the fire dog and any drips went into the tray where the ve­g­ies would roast,” Mr Ed­wards said.

Gail Oakes said the de­vice could be used to roast birds or small game.
