Sunday Tasmanian - - News - STEPHANIE BENNETT

AS online shopping booms in the lead-up to Christmas, a security expert has warned of potential risks.

Recently released data from the Unisys Security Index, a global survey measuring security concerns of people around the world, found Australians feel increasingly at risk of bank card fraud and online hacking.

Unisys Asia Pacific security services director Ashwin Pal said shoppers should take precautions when handing over details.

“The growing sophistication of hackers combined with the increase in the number of high-profile cyber attacks has highlighted how vulnerable our digital lives are,” Mr Pal said.

Mr Pal said shoppers could protect themselves by only shopping on secure websites, using password protecting devices and ensuring software is updated.
