Time to dump sugary treats

Sunday Tasmanian - - News -

THE lead-up to Christmas is the perfect time to advise parents and educators against letting confectionary slip into schools as presents or treats, says Tasmanian School Canteen Association executive officer Julie Dunbabin.

“I personally believe there should be no sugary treats given out at Christmas time in the school setting,” she said.

“And from our association’s perspective, we don’t support confectionary given out at schools and all of our gold schools meet this standard.”

Mrs Dunbabin urged people to consider healthy Christmas snacks, using fruit, vegetables and cheese.

“There are healthy Christmas treats and festive platters that children can make and have a lot of fun with,” she said.
