Complicated card anyone’s guess at Pioneer Park

- By SHANE GREEN in Alice Springs

A TOUGH day of racing is expected at Pioneer Park this afternoon, with the card of five races looking extremely difficult to work out.

Racing kicks off at 3.26pm with the Holdfast Insurance Hcp (1200m) and it’s a deadset raffle.

There are 10 gallopers going to the gates and each one has undeniable claims in the best race of the day.

Lisa Lefoe will start three in the race — Goondi, Ripley’s and Princess Zietta — while Terry Gillett and Kath North will wrap the saddle around two each.

Race 2, the Unibet Hcp, is not much easier to assess.

Former Victorian Pau Hana has fair form down south but hasn’t faced the starter for 12 months.

A six-year-old mare with Kevin Lamprecht, she will have the advantage of a 3kg claim for apprentice Raymond Vigar.

Pau Hana has good natural speed and if she’s fit she should run well but there are plenty of dangers.

Moneyball, Next In Line, Mount Nancy, Threelegsagain and Stormy Rebel all have chances.

The Cummins Hcp (1000m) is Race 3 and it’s a real shoot ’em down and drag ’em out affair.

Strike Alert was impressive winning last start and has as good a chance as any. She will go fast but will come under siege late.

Visiting rider Craig Lloyd has been booked to ride three horses in the race — Running Vixen for trainer Brian Coleman, North’s handy galloper Northern Gem, and the Greg Connortrained All Riled Up.

Good luck to chief steward David Westover and his panel sorting that out.

The Hot Stuff4 the Sporting Buff Hcp (1600m) is where punters can start to bet up.

The race looks tailormade for the Lefoe-trained Hollywood And Vine, who is screaming out for the distance.

Apprentice jockey Kacie Connor takes over from stable apprentice Vigar.

Vigar has been on Hollywood And Vine at his two runs here and it’s a change that is difficult to fathom.

A maiden three-year-old looks set to run a big race in the final event, the Rock Bar Maiden Plate (1400m).

Walletsinthewind has been outpaced in his four starts to date but he gets his chance this afternoon.
