CAROLS by Candlelight will mark the beginning of the festive season among a field of tiny flames at the Botanical Gardens in Darwin today.

More than 6000 Territorians are expected to get into the Christmas spirit and descend on the grounds armed with electronic candles.

The stellar line-up of local performers includes the Candlelight Choir, Darwin Youth Choir, Shiane Hawke, Anne McNamee, Kate Huntingford, Adam McNeil and Tiffany Cornell.

Christmas In Darwin Association NT Chair Rae Willoughby said ‘‘the sound is going to be unbelievable’’.

‘‘There are groups of different people who have formed a 70- piece choir for this event,’’ she said.

‘‘ The Darwin City Brass Band and the Australian Army Band have joined together to make a bigger band of about 40 people.

‘‘Santa will be there and he’ll draw a raffle at the gates with the money going to our two nominated charities, which are SIDS and Kids, and Camp Quality.’’

Food and drinks can be brought into the event and are available for purchase.

A fireworks display will close the show.
