Meeting goes well for Adelaide United coach

-

ADELAIDE United coach Josep Gombau says he received fresh support from the A-League’s club board after seeking a midweek meeting with the powerbrokers.

Gombau says that he asked to meet the board to explain why the Reds languish in eighth spot on the ladder with just one win so far during this season.

After a season- opening victory, Adelaide have lost four games and drawn two but the Spaniard says he’s not feeling any heat from club hierarchy.

‘‘It was a meeting I want to do and I asked for,’’ Gombau said yesterday.

‘‘And I explained what we are doing. We are very clear what we want and I don’t feel pressure for the results because it is something we are building,’’ he said.

‘‘ This first season is to build the project — this is what we will do.

‘‘I don’t have any pressure in myself — I don’t see tv; I don’t read newspapers; I do myjob.

‘‘I am very clear in what I want— everyone knows this first season will be difficult.’’

Adelaide’s chief executive Glenn Elliott said the Reds’ results were discussed at the meeting with Gombau.

‘‘But we all agreed that winning comes as a consequence of structures and styles of play,’’ Elliott said.
