Bon Jovi a scream in crafty disguise

-

BON Jovi stood among screaming fans unnoticed during their first Australian tour, thanks to some sneaky disguises.

Fast forward 26 years and they are Down Under again with their Because We Can tour, which kicked off in Melbourne last night.

Frontman Jon Bon Jovi remembers the atmosphere in 1987 at the height of the Slippery When Wet Australian tour, featuring the band’s signature hit, Livin’ OnAPrayer.

‘‘ There was screaming and yelling — we thought we were in One Direction, you know,’’ he joked.

‘‘ You couldn’t go anywhere — you had to sneak out in laundry vans and any which way to get you in and out of the hotels.’’

So the rockers decided to buy some freedom and fool the fans. They went to a costume shop and bought wigs and hats.

‘‘ We had a blast,’’ Bon Jovi said. ‘‘One by one not only did we walk out of the hotel but like those great scenes out of a Beatles movie, we were amongst all those same screaming fans and you were pointing at your own window.’’

Tonight’s Etihad Stadium show will be No.99 on the tour, while Adelaide’s AAMI Stadium will stage the 100th.
