Rodeo rider Chelsea spurred on by her shaky hands

-

CHELSEA Beisiegel loves the shaky hands she gets after she has competed at a rodeo.

The 20-year-old horse woman from Bees Creek is heading down south to compete in rodeos in what is known as the ‘‘Christmas run’’; five rodeos in one week across South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. She will be riding in the breakaway roping event where she will have to chase down and rope a calf against the clock.

‘‘ A good friend of mine thought it would be a great idea to take me out on one of her horses,’’ she said. ‘‘From there the journey began and I was taught to ride by a very close family friend and I got into rodeos.’’

The upcoming stint will be her first interstate rodeo jaunt, with competition beginning in Carrieton in South Australia on December 28. She will then go on to ride at Yarrawonga and Beechworth in Victoria, and Finley and Tumbarumba in NSW.

Ms Beisiegel started competing in rodeos at 14, doing barrel racing for three years before the breakaway roping.

‘‘What I love most is the adrenalin rush you get, the feeling of butterflies in your stomach when you know your name’s about to be called out to enter the arena,’’ she said. ‘‘The shaky hands you have after you’ve done your run— it’s such a thrill.’’
