Christmas cheer off and racing with turf club bash

-

SLIDES, sun and Santa Claus made for the perfect tropical family Christmas party at the Darwin Turf Club yesterday.

Dozens of Darwin families flocked to Fannie Bay Racecourse for Darwin’s Biggest Family Christmas Party, which is sponsored by the NTNews.

The kids had pony rides, met baby crocs from Crocosaurus Cove and saw Santa.

For Heidi May and her son Oliver, both from Lyons, summer fun is a new experi- ence at Christmas time. The family has recently moved from the UK, where the festive vibe is more snow and sleighs than sun and slides.

‘‘This is our first Christmas in Australia and we’re really enjoying our family day out,’’ Ms May said. ‘‘We love it here. It’s a very different Christmas.’’

The much bigger kids were able to enjoy yesterday’s race meeting. ‘‘Being the first day of the Christmas school holidays, the event provided an affordable option for families to get their festive celebrations off to a flying start and we hope it will become an NT Christmas tradition,’’ Darwin Turf Club marketing manager Carly Archer said.
