Plenty to fancy about Mount Nancy on next mission

- — SHANE GREEN

MOUNT Nancy has made enough improvement at each of his three Alice Springs runs to make one think he will be hard to beat in Sunday’s Hot Stuff For The Sporting Buff Handicap (1100m).

The Nigel Moody-trained galloper kicked off his Alice Springs campaign with a sound enough effort behind Mystic Obsession on November 5, but his next run was the pinnacle.

He overpowered speedsters Pau Hana and Next In Line just 12 days later in a win that was significant enough to warrant Mount Nancy being taken seriously.

He went down to smart galloper Blazing Comet a fortnight ago, but today’s assignment is of a much less difficult nature. Mount Nancy will be ridden by leading apprentice Kacie Connor on the weekend and will be very hard to beat.

Last Sunday’s emphatic winner Onthehussle steps out again when he lines up in the Unibet Handicap (1200m).

If he goes within just a heartbeat of the effort that he produced seven days ago he will win again. But therein lies the enigma that Onthehussle has become.

He can be tantalisingly brilliant one day and ugly as sin the next. His win was faultless last Sunday and he should compete strongly again this afternoon.

The three- year- old filly Danger Mouse resumes from a break on Sunday in the Holdfast Insurance Benchmark 54 Handicap (1000m).

She is a strong filly from the Lisa Lefoe stable and if she is ready she will be a dangerous player in today’s race.

Lefoe has opted for senior rider Paul Denton to partner Danger Mouse as she embarks on a campaign that might be her best yet.
