Klinsmann to stick with US

-

JURGEN Klinsmann has signed a four-year contract extension with the United States, which will see the former Germany star remain as coach until the 2018 World Cup, US Soccer said.

As well as head coach, the 49-year-old will also become the technical director for all US national squads.

‘‘I am very fortunate to continue the work we started more than 2 ½ years ago,’’ Klinsmann said.

‘‘It’s exciting to see the progress we have made, and we continue to make improvements on all fronts.’’

Klinsmann has been at the US helm for two years and will be in charge for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, having steered the team to top spot in CONCACAF qualifying.

The US also won a fifth Gold Cup title this year, as well as stunning Germany 4-3 in a friendly in June.

The US will meet Germany again in the 2014 World Cup.
