Devil’s Dream and Davis once again a divine combination

- — DOUG BOOTH

THE Brendon Davis-Devil’s Dream partnership proved a winning combination again in the Redbuild TROBIS Handicap (1200m) at Fannie Bay yesterday.

Davis had ridden the Gary Clarke- trained three- yearold gelding to success on his Darwin debut a month ago and he repeated the feat with ease yesterday.

He had the son of Lonhro handily placed early and was easing down as he hit the line four lengths ahead of the other Clarke runner in the eight-horse field High Moment (Barry Huppatz).

Davis believes Darwin race fans have not yet seen the best of Devil’s Dream.

‘‘He’s only a three-year-old and I did not know how he would go over the shorter distance ( 1200m) today. I thought it might be a little sharp for him,’’ Davis said.

‘‘But he jumped well, travelled on the steel and felt like a winner from the go.’’

Davis said that it was a comfortable win.

‘‘I never did much with him,’’ he said.

‘‘Once he strained he let down himself and I just gave him a couple to make sure his mind was on the job.

‘‘Hopefully he can go a bit further (in Darwin).’’
