Ban duo’s costly holiday

-

LEADING Sydney riders Nash Rawiller and Hugh Bowman will have extended Christmas holidays after copping suspensions at Rosehill on top of bans they received at Randwick.

Rawiller, who was suspended at Friday’s twilight meeting at Randwick, got another four for causing interference in yesterday’s two-year-old race and will miss next month’s Magic Millions carnival at the Gold Coast.

He had already lost second place on protest in the Golden Gift and pleaded guilty to causing the interference.

‘‘I throw myself at your mercy,’’ Rawiller said. ‘‘I’ve hit a flat spot.’’

Rawiller can return on January 18, while Bowman’s ban puts him out until January 8.

Bowman also pleaded guilty but suggested that since it was Christmas, stewards could let him serve the suspensions concurrently. That brought a laugh but it was a no-go with the two bans to be served cumulatively.

Bowman must also front an inquiry on Monday into his ride on Fulminate at Canterbury eight days ago.

Trainer David Vandyke said he had instructed the jockey to be in a forward position but Fulminate came from the back of the field to finish 1¾ lengths behind all-the-way winner Darci Drama.
