Negotiations advance for sale of struggling Heart

-

BELEAGUERED A-League side Melbourne Heart have confirmed that talks to sell the club are ongoing.

Without confirming the identity of the interested party, the Heart confirmed several approaches to the club had taken place across 2013 and negotiations to sell the franchise were at an advanced stage.

‘‘Over the last four months, the club’s ownership has held discussions with one particular group who has expressed an interest in growing the club,’’ the statement read.

In recent days, various reports have speculated the club is on the brink of a $12 million sale to New Zealand businessman Bart Campbell.

Campbell, who has a long history in sport management, led the consortium that took control of NRL club Melbourne Storm in June.

Issued the day after a demoralising home loss to Wellington Phoenix, the state- ment implied coach John Aloisi would be safe until the conclusion of negotiations.

‘‘Any discussions will ensure the club’s existing structures remain, in order to prevent dislocation to the club’s philosophies or personnel.’’
