Taking a ton of wickets

-

OFF- SPINNER Nathan Lyon is the 35th Australian cricketer to take 100 Test wickets.

Lyon removed Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad for ducks in the same over on day three of the Boxing Day Ashes Test to achieve the feat.

In his next over, Lyon had English star Kevin Pietersen caught by Ryan Harris in the deep for 49, giving him five wickets for the innings.

Lyon finished the innings with 5-50, taking him to 101 Test scalps.

He bowled Bresnan when the batsman tried a pull shot.

Three balls later, Broad edged him to Michael Clarke at first slip.

Earlier in the innings the 26-year-old spinner dismissed Ian Bell for a duck and Ben Stokes for 19.

Lyon has been one of the keys to Australia’s domination of this Ashes series, providing important backup to the team’s three-man pace battery.

He has taken 16 wickets in the series, second only to Mitchell Johnson’s 31.

Yesterday’s haul was the fourth time Lyon has taken five wickets in a Test innings. His best innings figures are 7-94 against India in March this year.
