Precious pup lucky to survive Marlow Lagoon predators

- MOLLY BAXTER

BOYD the mixed-breed puppy would not have made it through the night if a passer-by did not see something moving on the side of the road and stop to see what it was.

Riddled with worms, and with dried-up scabs and an open head wound, Boyd was lucky to be picked up from Marlow Lagoon, where predators — such as crocodiles and dingoes — could have made him their prey.

He was given to Top End Rehoming Group co-ordinator Katrina Stafford, who fed him a puppy slushie of formula and food before a good night’s sleep.

She said it looked like little Boyd was dumped and was only about five weeks old. He weighed 1.4kg.

“We cleaned up the open wound and it’s dried up well,” she said.

“After a bath and clean up, I pulled all the ticks off him and gave him formula and some food and he’s woken up very perky.”

Ms Stafford said Boyd had a Chihuahua-type head, but thinks he’ll grow to be a medium-sized dog.

Boyd is now in the capable hands of Aussie Pooch owner Hannah Wakelin, who will make sure he is fully wormed before finding a forever home for him.

If you’re interested in adopting this pooch into your home, message the Top End Rehoming Group’s Facebook page.
