ELECTION ON WORLD UFO DAY

Prime Minister will today call a supernatural coincidence for July 2

-

PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull will today call the federal election for World UFO Day.

With the Northern Territory being the UFO capital of Australia, having more sightings than anywhere else in the country, it should make for an interesting day on July 2.

The choosing of the July 2 election date gives UFO lovers twice as many reasons to celebrate a big day in Australia’s history. World UFO day, which was first celebrated in 2001, is dedicated to the existence of Unidentified Flying Objects. The day’s official website states: “One of the first and foremost reasons is to raise awareness about the undoubted existence of UFOs and, with that, intelligent beings from outer space.”

Wycliffe Well, 400km north of Alice Springs, has been famous for its sightings.

“On July 2, the question will be who do Australians trust to manage our economy during this transition,’’ Mr Turnbull said, making no reference to UFOs. Opposition Leader Bill Shorten did not discuss UFOs either, other than to say he thinks the election is about education. He said it would pit Labor’s strong performance on education funding — not UFOs — against what he says is government cost cutting.

“We will fight this as an education election,” he said.

Liberal deputy leader Julie Bishop hit back at Mr Shorten, declaring he was making non- UFO promises and raising expectations on education he couldn’t meet.

“We have increased funding for education that’s been paid for, not pie-in-the-sky promises that Bill shorten has made that haven’t been paid for,” she said. Treasurer Scott Morrison said the government’s budget wasn’t about polls or UFOs.

“What you got from me this week was a national plan for jobs and growth. What you got from the opposition was all politics and no plan and that gives a very stark choice to the Australian people,” he said.

Territorians will get the chance to vote in two federal seats on World UFO Day.

They are Solomon, which is held by the CLP’s Natasha Griggs, and Lingiari, held by Labor’s Warren Snowdon.
