Man held for Gunn home fire
A MAN has been remanded in custody for allegedly attempting to set fire to his ex-partner’s house.
It is understood that the woman was the only person inside the Nathan Court house in Gunn at the time.
The 33-year-old initially tried to set fire to the house at 2am but was unsuccessful.
Detective Senior Constable Maree Scott said police will allege the man returned around three hours later at 5am and set fire to the fuse box at the side of the house.
“Police responding to the report of a fire have arrested the male on suspicion of arson and have also charged him with high range drink-driving following a roadside breath test,” she said.
“Fire and Rescue Investigators confirmed accelerants were used to start the fire after two earlier attempts failed.”
A police spokesman said police were aware of the earlier incident.
A resident on the street said this was the first incident they have had on the usually quiet suburban cul-de-sac in the 12 months they have lived in there.
The 33-year-old appeared in the Darwin Local Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody until July 13.
