Lewis on song for Hawthorn

- GREG DAVIS LIONS HAWKS

JORDAN Lewis, take a bow.

The four-time premiership player celebrated his 250-game milestone in emphatic style with 42 disposals to spearhead Hawthorn’s 48-point victory over Brisbane at the Gabba.

With his best mate and teammate Jarryd Roughead watching on live after making the trip north despite his welldocumented cancer battle, Lewis had 23 touches to halftime to keep the error-riddled reigning premiers on track against a willing Lions outfit.

Lewis ( pictured right) was in everything, which was lucky for Hawthorn as his poise was probably the difference when the scrappy but entertaining contest was in the balance.

Apart from his 42 disposals, Lewis had 18 contested possessions, six inside 50 entries, nine clearances and two goal assists.

His goal in the ninth minute of the fourth gave the Hawks a 14-point lead and invaluable breathing room from the plucky Lions, who fell away in the dying minutes as the final margin brutally blew out.

Lewis cleaned up the messes made by others and showed a level of skill and composure to stand out from the mistake-fest where Brisbane did well to drag the Hawks down to their level and make it a street fight for most of the match.

Lewis was also in the thick of the rolling melee in the third term when the Lions went after the Hawks playmaker.

Brisbane took up the fight to Hawthorn in a vastly superior effort to the past three weeks when they have been beaten by a combined margin of 218 points.

Brisbane essentially matched Hawthorn for the first three quarters of the game.

They tackled hard, ran hard, competed hard in front of 23,691, but yet again were let down by skill errors, especially in front of goal where they wasted a number of golden scoring opportunities that would have put the heat on the Hawks.
