Mee fires, but Murdoch leads

-

ROYAL Queensland Golf Club’s James Mee shot a sixunder par 66 to move to within four shots of the lead going into today’s final round of the NT Amateur Golf Championship at the Darwin Golf Club.

Mee’s round included seven birdies and a bogey at the last, when he got into trouble on the par-five 18th hole.

But Victorian James Murdoch produced the highlight, an eagle on the last hole to turn a two-shot deficit behind leader Shae Wools-Cobb into a one-shot lead after 54 holes.

Murdoch’s consistency over three rounds where he has shot scores of 69, 69 and 70 means it will take a big round from one of the chasing pack to snatch the title from him.

Woods-Cobb, who led the championship until the 54th hole, had two bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes to blow a four shot lead.

Of the local players battling for the closed title, Paul Edwards holds a four-shot lead.
