THE SIMPLE LIFE

Before investing your hard-earned cash in expensive beauty products, get back to basics

Skincare is the largest category in the cosmetic industry, worth $24 billion and growing at a rate of 7 per cent per year. We are living in an era where information is at the click of a button and beauty campaigns are everywhere, with the world’s most beautiful women becoming the face of major cosmetic brands.

But are we overlooking the need to feed our skin from within?

Before running out to invest in the latest cream or treatment, take a second to look at how you are treating your skin. You might just save your skin and some money. APPLY SPF 50 Doing this daily is the very least you can do for your skin, and will help repair and protect skin to keep premature ageing at bay. DRINK WATER I forget to drink water throughout the day when I’m on the go, but my skin suffers uffers for it and looks dull and dehydrated. I now keep a flask beside me to remind myself to drink water. Around eight glasses a day will keep your skin hydrated and it will immediately look plumper. CUT OUT SUGAR Sugar causes inflammation and ages your skin. It is especially important to quit sugar if you suffer with acne, because inflammation has been linked to the condition. AVOID CAFFEINE I’m a huge coffee lover, but unfortunately my skin has suffered for my love of caffeine. Coffee dehydrates the body, which can cause your skin to wrinkle. It als also impairs collagen and elastin production, which leads to premature ageing. AVOID FACE WIPES I’m all for the quickest fix, such as dry shampoo or BB cream, b but using face wipes is a no no. Why? Because most leave some kind of residue on your face, which is not what cleansing is supposed to do, and your moisturiser won’t be able to penetrate.
