NT’s BMX aces to hit Red Centre

- JACK HISLOP

THE TERRITORY’S hottest riders will converge at the Red Centre BMX Club in Alice Springs for the 2016 NT titles this week.

Thirty-seven riders from the Jingili club, 42 from Palmerston’s Satellite City and one rider from Big Rivers will join 106 Alice Spring locals plus 20 more from interstate.

One Jingili rider hoping to secure victory will be 11-yearold Catherine Carter, who will race in both the 20-inch and cruiser categories.

Carter has been training almost every day, hoping to emulate her top-three finish last year. “I think I should do pretty well, but I know there are a few girls down in Alice Springs who are good as well – so I am not too sure,” she said.

Carter said she would be feeling butterflies before such an important event.

“I get nervous about an hour before, but by the time we get out on the track, they’re usually all gone,” she said.

Carter will be joined by fellow Jingili riders Cale Maurice and Jed Fairchild, who will be hoping to bring home the number one place in the nine years boys.

Tahlia Shean and Bella Faull in the 10 years girls class have been training hard in preparation to back up their podium finishes at the 2015 event.

In the 40-44 men’s class, Warren Leavold makes his debut in the Territory titles from Satellite City, while Big Rivers’ sole competitor, Nicky Tomson, will come out of retirement in the 16 years and over ladies class.
