Foot­baller lands in ICU

A WA foot­baller in­jured in a bump in a game last week­end re­mains in the in­ten­sive care unit of a Dar­win hospi­tal.

The man, be­lieved to be in his late 20s, was re­port­edly play­ing last Sun­day near Halls Creek when he suf­fered a knock dur­ing the game.

Lo­cal po­lice said there ap­peared to be no mal­ice in the bump.

It is un­der­stood the man man­aged to leave the field unas­sisted but was later flown to Royal Dar­win Hospi­tal by the Royal Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice.

It is also un­der­stood he had emer­gency surgery to re­lieve pres­sure on his brain.

A hospi­tal spokesman said yes­ter­day the man was still in the in­ten­sive care unit in a crit­i­cal but sta­ble con­di­tion.
