Council isn’t so bad

layed by 12 months to avoid voter fatigue with federal and NT elections.

It appears to me we will see a cricket team of candidates tackle the incumbent Katrina Fong Lim at the poll. Some are taking shape now.

My advice to those who are thinking of putting their hands up: Don’t go to the polls as a one person show. Take a team. Campaign as a team. Present ideas as a team.

You will live and die by your ideas but that is the point of public debate.

We cannot expect our city to move forward if the fundamental decision makers and figurehead leaders have to do it with one hand tied behind their backs.

We either take that path or we scrap the entire local government system in Darwin and Palmerston and absorb it into the Territory Government. That’s a debate for another column.
