HIBISCUS TEA
While ancient Egyptians drank this brew to stay cool, today you’re likely to find it at one of those hipster cafes where everyone’s already pretty cool.
Even the Pharaohs are thought to have sipped this sour, crimson-coloured tea. Known as “karkadé” in Egyptian Arabic, it remains popular throughout Egypt. Served hot or cold, it is rich in vitamin C, iron and various antioxidants. While further studies are required, preliminary research shows hibiscus tea may have a positive effect on high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
