HYPNOSIS
You’d be forgiven for thinking that hypnosis is a modern-day discovery, delivered via an app on your phone. However, the earliest written record of hypnosis therapy is in the Ebers Papyrus from 1550BC.
Ancient Egyptians created sleep temples to induce trances and heal physical and psychological problems. Modern-day hypnosis is a potentially useful treatment for IBS, pain management, asthma, anxiety, stress and insomnia. A 2013 Cochrane research review found “strong evidence that distraction and hypnosis are effective in reducing the pain and distress” in children during injections.
