The National Firearms Agreement is coming to a head in the next week or two.

All NT firearms owners, hunters and shooters should be aware that those who oppose us continue to try to chip away at our ability to own, use and store legitimate firearms, as deemed by the NT Firearms Act.

Currently all the hype has been about the Adler lever action shotgun. This shotgun is from a design that was patented in 1887. Hardly new technology. It is just a shotgun. No different from three other designs on the market.

I urge all firearms owners, whether this affects you or not, to email the Chief Minister in the most polite terms (I do mean polite, for that is what we are) and ask the Chief Minister to maintain all the aspects of the NFA. There is no need for any change that affects the NT.

The Chief Minister’s email address is chief.minister@nt.gov.au. Please don’t delay as this issue comes to a head this week.

Grant Hatcher at Fishing and Outdoor World has the best goose gossip going around. Grant says that, surprisingly, Gunn Pt has some water following the recent storms and high tides.

“The birds are flying high, but that is the case everywhere,” he said. Grant knows his stuff and he was let in on a secret that the birds have left the Kakadu floodplains where they were shoulder to shoulder a week ago.

Staffer Jason noted that Harrison Dam was alive with birds on Tuesday morning, backing up this claim. I suggest you call in to the shop and watch this column for more form guide predictions as the spring carnival progresses.

Tip: Use your bagged birds as decoys with a piece of twisted wire to hold their heads and neck up. This is the best decoy you can deploy. Make up the wires at home and take a dozen into the field with you in your pocket.

Remember, sporting clay target practice continues every Friday arvo from 4pm till 9pm at the NT Field and Game range, Micket Creek Shooting Complex, Brandt Rd, Knuckey Lagoon. If you want the goss on geese, please come along.
