Council ready for cyclones
DARWIN Council has completed its annual cyclone training this week, to ensure all systems are in place to best deal with a potential emergency this wet season.
The council uses a disaster management program called Guardian, which is an integral part of the overall Disaster Management Plan and is central to organising resources and dealing with community emergencies.
Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim said she was confident City of Darwin staff received the adequate training of the program to better assist Darwin residents in the event of a cyclone.
“Preparedness is essential and this system allows us to link in to our services, ensuring our response best guarantees the community’s safety,” she said.
“The software was introduced to us seven years ago and has since worked extremely well in emergencies.
“It enables our staff to act promptly to communicate any important messages and take the necessary actions to respond to all emergencies swiftly.
“The staff commitment to protecting our community is crucial and even with the best technology it is the people who make the difference.”
