NT riders into finals – no bull

- JACK HISLOP

TWO Northern Territory bull riders are among the leading contenders going into Warwick Rodeo National Finals on October 27-30.

Katherine’s Darcy McBean and Humpty Doo’s Mark Lamberth finished the 2015-16 regular season ranked fourth and sixth respectively.

They now enter the national finals for a chance at glory against 13 other competitors.

The finals will be held over four rounds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, with the last session to be staged on Sunday afternoon.

At age 40, Lamberth is the oldest in a field which includes five riders in their 30s, including standings leader Jason O’Hearn.

O’Hearn hails from Tamworth in country New South Wales and goes into his fifth national finals at age 37.

Lamberth won the Mt Isa Rodeo in 2015, while McBean led the 2015-16 standings in February this year before dropping back to fourth.

Riders take some points from their pro tour performances into the finals, meaning McBean and Lamberth will have an advantage over riders in the bottom half of the standings.

Second division and junior rodeo events will also be held on October 27-30 at Warwick.
