VICKI COSFORD, 31 JUSTIN BIRKS, 30

It was a few random text messages to a wrong number that brought Vicki and Justin together. In March, 2012, Vicki was planning a holiday to Vietnam and was trying to teach her mum how to text to keep in touch while she was away. “Every time I’d send her a message, she said she wasn’t getting them,” Vicki said. “When I’d ring Mum on that number it would ring her but the text messages weren’t getting to her.” After about three wayward messages, Justin responded saying she had the wrong number. He was living in Mt Isa at the time, a town Vicki had also lived in previously, which made her think perhaps the messages were going to someone she actually knew. Thinking there was a connection the two started comparing life details to try and figure out how they knew each other. “It turns out we didn’t know each other from a bar of soap,” Vicki said. But that didn’t stop the pair from texting and – after a month, on ANZAC Day – Vicki picked up the phone after a few commemorative beers and heard his voice for the first time. “We spoke for three hours on the phone that day,” she said. Justin flew up to Darwin to meet Vicki at the next opportunity and four years later the pair tied the knot at the Darwin Trailer Boat club. Surrounded by friends and family from Australia and New Zealand, the pair had a short and sweet ceremony with plenty of laughs, followed up by Vicki doing a cartwheel on the beach in her wedding dress.
