THE new Michael Gunner ALP government last week let down its firearm owners when it went to the National Firearms Agreement meeting with a plan to reclassify the Adler A-110 seven round shotgun to C or D class.

At the request of NT Field and Game, the SSAA and other hunting and shooting associations, the NT Firearms Council asked for a meeting with the Chief Minister to discuss this issue and introduce themselves.

It appears this first meeting has fallen on deaf ears. Even an in-principle agreement between Senator Nigel Scullion and Michael Gunner to honour a previous letter by Adam Giles with full support for no changes to the NFA was tossed out.

Leading up to the recent Territory election the ALP was asked for its policy on firearm ownership, hunting and shooting with no response from them. It appears the ALP may have a hidden agenda. This is extremely disappointing considering the unrivalled support the CLP government had for hunters and shooters over the last term. GRANT at Fishing and Outdoor World had fewer birds in front of the bead this week when he journeyed to Beatrice Lagoon at Harrison Dam early in the week. But other staffers that had a crack later last week following the rain on Wednesday had the opposite result. Plenty of birds and good hunting. “Be persistent, because the weather seems to change all flight plans for the birds”, he said. The Shoal Bay area is improving daily, but there had been very few reports of success at Lambell’s Lagoon according the customers at the store over the past week.

Anecdotally there was another case of leptospirosis reported by a hunter entering the water at Beatrice Lagoon. It was serious enough to put him in hospital and Tom Nicholls from NT Parks and Wildlife warned that at least two big crocs were down there in the lagoon. Be croc wise and keep your feet dry.

If you find rust has affected the blueing on your barrels or receiver a paste made from cigarette ash and gun oil will act as a gentle abrasive that removes the rust without damaging the surrounding blueing when rubbed lightly with a flannel cloth.

Rainfall to Thurday 11:20am – Gunn Point 41mm, Lambell’s Lagoon 17mm, Howard Springs Nature Park 12mm, Middle Point 78mm, Shoal Bay 26mm. Sporting clay target practice continues every Friday arvo from 4pm till 9pm at the NT Field and Game range, Micket Creek Shooting Complex, Brandt Rd, Knuckey Lagoon. The NT Field and Game Association AGM will occur following the next competition shoot on Sunday, November 27. All members are welcome. If you want the goss on crop protection hunting for the following week please come along.
