SPORT Jamerson the entertainer

- JOSH SPASARO

STAR Ansett swingman Jerron Jamerson loves to entertain, and he put on a show for Darwin basketball fans on Thursday night.

The American import scored a whopping 46 points in his team’s 99-97 win over Lightning.

There were dunks, and passes between the legs and behind the back.

Jamerson spearheaded Ansett’s fourth-straight win in the Championship.

“I do that kind of stuff (tricks) back home, and I’m doing it out here so we can have more people come and watch us play,” Jamerson said.

“It’s not only my dunks, but when my teammates make the big plays that stuff lifts me.

“They’ve been practising well and I’m happy the team has been bringing it from training into the game.

“The younger guys are stepping up.”

Fellow American import Robert Skinner (16 points) drained a clutch three-pointer to give Ansett a 96-93 lead with 10 seconds left.

Jamerson and Skinner’s combination in offence was key to their teams’s victory.

“It took a while for me and Robert to get used to playing with each other at first. Now I think we’ve got that down pat,” Jamerson said.

Ansett took on Palmerston in Round 8 action last night.

Essington has been boosted by the recent additions of imports Deola D’Brown Folarin and Tobiasz Hose, both showing their athletic brilliance in big wins over Razzle (103-71) and Tracy Village (93-69).

D’Brown Folarin scored 23 and 18 points in those games, and Hose registered 19 and 32 points in respective matches.

Hose, who previously starred for Lander University in South Carolina, was fresh off the plane for his first Darwin Basketball outing on Thursday night.

Essington coach Alex Hamriding said his team all of a sudden becomes a much more difficult opponent with both bigs in the line-up.

“Deola straightens us up and Tobias should provide us with that leg speed which we lack at times,” Hamriding said.

D’Brown Folarin also has one heck of a basketball CV, winning a national championship in Togo, before playing throughout South-East Asia.

“It was a great comeback win. We lost two games after I got here,” he said after Thursday night’s win over Razzle.

“So, we really needed to win to get the team spirit up again, and I’m happy we did that.”

Also on Friday night, Eagles beat Palmerston 103-86 and Uni Rebels defeated Razzle 84-56.

In women’s Championship action, Razzle beat the Rebels 56-38, Eagles prevailed 74-59 over Palmerston and Ansett defeated Lightning 58-40.

Israeli import Tal Yakov (25 points) and Tamiyah Perkins (15 points) starred in the undefeated Ansett’s win over Lightning.

“It wasn’t our best game, but we managed to adjust and get the job done,” Ansett coach Dan Sivan said.

“Perkins changed the game by making some great stops on defence, as well as her lay-ups.”

Youngster Ieasha Friel continues to impress for the second-placed Eagles, scoring 26 points against the Power.
