Tagged barra caught off Nightcliff

- ISABELLA HOOD

DARWIN teenager Wayden McHugh has caught dozens of fish ever since he was a young boy, but none are as special as this barra he reeled in at Nightcliff.

The 19-year-old is the 11th lucky fisho to capture a tagged barra as part of the 2017/2018 Million Dollar Fish competit- ion. Mr McHugh said he was shocked when he noticed his 60cm catch had a red tag attached to it.

“I didn’t even know what I was thinking, it just happened out of nowhere,” he said.

Mr McHugh has to wait in suspense until tomorrow morning to find out whether his barra has a $10,000 or a $1 million cheque attached to it.

“I’m a bit nervous to find out, but any amount is better than nothing,” he said.

“I really hope it’s the million-dollar fish but to be honest, I wouldn’t know what to do with the cash as it’s a fair bit of money.”

Season three runs until February 28 and participants must register online at www.milliondollarfish.com.au
