It’s the wet season, but there’s still plenty of events in the Territory. Check out who’s been out and about this week
2017 NORTHERN TERRITORY RECREATIONAL FISHING AWARDS Parliament House
THE biennial NT Recreational Fishing Awards were held on November 24, celebrating the important Territory industry’s best and brightest.
The awards honour individuals and organisations who have made a significant contribution to the region’s recreational fishing.
The winners featured Alex Julius, Charlotte Klose, Cobourg Fishing Safaris, SWB Barra Challenge and Barra Team.
Primary Industries Minister Ken Vowles said it was “important to recognise and celebrate the contributions of the people and organisations helping to develop and manage recreational fishing in the Territory”.
“It is with their stewardship that we will be able to maximise the benefits of our amazing fishing resources,” Mr Vowles said.
In a further boost for the industry, this year’s National Recreational Fishing Conference took place in Darwin.
“Themes this year include sustainability and management of recreational fishing, and community involvement,” Mr Vowles said.
“These values are at the heart of our priorities, and an updated recreational fishing survey will help us better inform the decisionmaking process around them.”
