EGE DAY, 28 SCOTT DAY, 33

EGE never suspected that leaving Estonia for a backpacking trip around Australia would lead her to find the love of her life. She and her best friend Keili were delighted to find a friendly local who let them stay with him for weeks. He also turned out to be the person who would introduce Ege to her future husband. “One night our friend decided to take us out to show us Darwin night life,” she said. “That night I was introduced to Scott, and 10 days he asked me to be his girlfriend.” Scott planned the ultimate romantic proposal and asked Ege to marry him at Skycity hotel on their second anniversary. Despite having dinner at the Cove, enjoying the lagoon and staying at a beautiful hotel room, Ege did not suspect what was about to happen. “I had no idea that Scott was going to propose to me because we always like to celebrate little things and he is always very romantic,” she said. When Ege walked into the hotel room, she was greeted by red roses on the bed, bottles of champagne and a bubble bath. In fact, it was while they were in the bath that Scott finally popped the question! Wedding preparations had to be organised early, as they wanted to give their friends and family notice that they would be getting married in Ege’s homeland, Estonia, and planning began two years in advance. When the long awaited day finally came around, the sun was shining after a week of rain, and everything went perfectly. “I told myself ‘this is your special day’ and decided I was going to enjoy every moment,” said Ege. She travelled with her bridesmaids in a limousine to meet Scott at the Tallinn Old Town, where they had a quick photoshoot followed by their beautiful wedding ceremony, and a reception with their family and friends. To finish off the amazing, romantic experience, the newlywed couple honeymooned in Phuket, Thailand, which Ege said was the perfect destination. “Just imagine, I am from the other side of the world and I found my true love here in Darwin,” she said.
