CATHERINE MCKISSOCK, 37 JASON MCKISSOCK, 42 Catherine and Jason met nine years ago, through family friends. A laid- back relationship, the couple had their first date at the Oriental Gourmet, the Chinese restaurant in Alice Springs. “We’d been on and off and then we decided to get married this year,” Catherine said. When it came time for the wedding, Catherine said she didn’t let what is normally a stressful day, stress her out. “It wasn’t really stressful until the week when it was coming up to the wedding, then it got super crazy,” she said. “Just making sure everything was in place. I didn’t take all that into account. Other than that it was fun, no stress.” Married on November 18 this year, Catherine said she was a touch late to the actual ceremony. “It was set for 3pm but I got there at 3.30pm,” she said. “I was already ready but I had to call into the shop to grab something. “My mum and sister picked me and my two daughters up and we went to the shop because we wanted something beforehand.” With about 115 guests at the wedding, Catherine said it was beautiful. “I’ve been here in Darwin working for a long time, so I have friends here,” she said. “My brother lives here and my mum and sister live in Brisbane. “I had three bridesmaids, good friends of mine I’ve worked with over the years from different jobs. One from Queensland, one from Victoria and one from Ayers Rock, they all came up to Alice for the wedding.” She said everyone enjoyed the day at the Surf Club. “The staff were great,” she said. “It could cater for more people seating- wise, it was affordable and it was just right for the kids to run around. “We had a fair few kids. If they got bored they ran into the park. “It was laid- back and casual, everyone was relaxed.” The couple are now heading to Queensland this month for a holiday, instead of a honeymoon.
