Same as it ever was

PALMERSTON Council held an information session for future Palmerston aldermen earlier this week. Former alderman Athina Pascoe-Bell came along to listen to the presentations, and grabbed an information booklet — she looks likely to apply for a spot on the new council. Suspended Mayor Ian

Abbott decided not to attend the meeting, but did pop along to the regular meeting directly after the event. One-time Palmerston Mayor Robert McLeod popped his head in the door just before the candidate session started — but decided at the last minute not to take a seat.

Swift justice prevails

A YOUNG father who broke into a bottle shop was dragged into Darwin Local Court last week. He had also smashed prosecutor

Rebecca Everitt’s car window. He told Judge Tanya Fong Lim he shouldn’t be locked up in jail, saying he wasn’t violent when he gets drunk. “When he gets drunk his instructions are that he dances to Taylor

Swift,” his lawyer told Ms Fong Lim. “There’s nothing wrong with dancing to Taylor Swift,” Ms Fong Lim assured him.

Crap act cops a spray

A DISABLED shopper at Hibiscus Shopping Centre was patiently waiting for the disabled loo when out bounded a very able-bodied worker from Pizza King. Already annoyed at his flagrant disregard for the rules, she was ropeable when she went inside the crapper and discovered he’d been smoking in there. Not trusting centre management to straighten him out she called the NT’s highest power — Bushranger. Let’s just hope he washed his hands.

Parking skills beyond help

CONTROVERSIAL NT News columnist Jill

Poulsen revealed her complete incompetence when it comes to reverse parallel parking in her writings last week. Her cries for help were met with an offer of a free lesson from a local parking instructor complete with cartoon of Wicking-like wit showing Poulsen in a humorous attempt to park a car. Thanks for the offer, but Bushy has seen Poulsen try to park — there are already two busted NT News vehicles attributed to her endeavours — and can assure you she is beyond help.

Drilling muffles message

THE long awaited independent report into fracking was released this week and journos gathered for a press conference to hear its author Justice Rachel Pepper speak. But her words were almost drowned out — ironically by the sound of very loud drilling, much to the amusement of those in attendance. However, it wasn’t from the gas companies already getting cracking, but from repair work being carried out on the lift just outside the conference room.

Territorians stick together

PETER Brown, well-known former Sunday Territorian and NT News editor during the 2000s, finally married his long-time partner, Jenifer Jagielski, last month. Browny, now the Digital Editor at the Daily Telegraph newspaper in Sydney — and a huge Cold Chisel fan — posted on Facebook a day or two ago about a memorable “Territorians-stick-together” moment. Apparently Darwin sweetheart and songstress Jess Mauboy was performing at a function Jen and Browny were attending. With a little bit of prompting, Jess gave the happy couple a slightly belated wedding gift. He posted: “An unbelievable wedding present delivered by this amazing young lady last night. She dedicated her stunning rendition of Flame Trees to Jenifer Jagielski and I ... A real privilege to see the this young girl from Darwin blossom into an international star.” Good on ya, Jess. And congrats from us too, Jen and Browny.
