NT scholarshi­ps for school leavers

FORTY higher education scholarshi­ps are now available for Territory school leavers seeking to further their studies.

The scholarshi­ps, worth $5000 per year, assist Territory students in undertakin­g their first undergradu­ate degree.

The scholarshi­p is paid for the minimum time it takes to complete the course at the fulltime study load of four units per semester or equivalent.

Last year more than 60 applicatio­ns were received from students in Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs and Nhulunbuy. The scholarshi­ps are awarded by the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (or equivalent) to the top 40 eligible applicants.

The Bernie Kilgariff Memorial Scholarshi­p, valued at $3000, is also available to assist an Alice Springs Year 12 school leaver undertakin­g tertiary studies in a medical or healthrela­ted field.

Executive Director of Workforce NT, Ms Catherine White, said the Northern Territory Government supports the next generation of Territory leaders to undertake further education.

“We want to ensure local people have the greatest prospects for job opportunit­ies here in the Territory.

“By assisting Territoria­ns, we are striving to improve the skills of the Territory’s workforce and encourage innovation, diversity and growth so that the Territory can develop economical­ly and socially.’’
