Serious injuries and dead cows following crash
A DRIVER is in hospital with serious injuries to his arm after he hit animals on the Stuart Highway, about 5km north of Pine Creek.
Territory police received the call from a truck driver about 2.10am yesterday, Duty Superintendent Rob Burgoyne said.
“We had the call that there was a black utility on the side of the road and had hit some form of animal,” he said.
“We went into overdrive, sent police out to the scene but there was no one there.
“Eventually we located the driver at the Katherine Hospital,” Supt Burgoyne said.
“We’re not sure how he got there at this stage. We believe he may have gotten some sort of lift to the hospital.”
Supt Burgoyne said the 62year-old Katherine man had serious injuries to his arm.
Police believed he may have had it out of the car window at the time of the crash.
“We don’t have a lot of information at this time, all we found at the scene was two dead cows and he’s smashed the front of the car,” he said.
The man was medically evacuated to the Royal Darwin Hospital by CareFlight in the early hours of yesterday morning.
