Cats star set for tribunal
GEELONG key forward Tom Hawkins will face the AFL tribunal after being referred directly for intentional umpire contact.
It will be a test case, with Hawkins saying his contact with field umpire Dean Margetts was accidental.
Cats coach Chris Scott said after Friday night’s match he hoped common sense prevailed.
AFL match reviewer Michael Christian also offered Hawkins a $2000 fine for rough conduct against GWS defender Nick Haynes.
The Giants’ Adam Tomlinson was also offered a $2000 fine for rough conduct against Jed Bews.
Hawkins was in outstanding form, with four goals in Geelong’s 61-point belting of the Giants.
He appeared to push Margetts’ hand away after he had a free kick and a 50m penalty paid against him for driving his knee into Haynes’ backside. Margetts can be overheard on the Seven Network broadcast warning Hawkins not to touch him.
