Life’s a beach as BASS makes move to Mindil

- STAFF WRITERS

DARWIN’S premiere music festival BASSINTHEGRASS has ditched its iconic Darwin Amphitheatre home for the lure of Mindil Beach.

The move will help cater for the increasing crowd numbers at the popular event which draws renowned national and international acts to the territory each year.

Organisers have also con- firmed there will be an extra stage and an expanded lineup at the new venue for the show on May 18 next year.

The Territory Labor Government’s record $103 million turbocharging tourism stimulus package will boost the 2019 festival to maximise its appeal to a national visitor market.

It will be accompanied by a new marketing program to attract more interstate visitors. An expanded artist line-up, tickets on sale and more information on the event will be revealed in the coming months.

The 2019 festival has been billed as the biggest ever in its 17-year history and the largest music festival ever held in the Territory.

NT Major Events have also committed to developing activities and initiatives around the festival for the first time to increase tourism and give visitors a reason to stay longer and spend more.

Tourism and Culture minister Lauren Moss said the festival would receive funding under the Territory Labor Government’s $103 million turbocharging tourism stimulus package.

“BASSINTHEGRASS is a much-loved Territory institution and a high point on young Territorians’ social calendar. We are very excited to be giving it a boost,” she said.

“BASSINTHEGRASS 2019 will be the biggest event in its 17-year history and the largest music festival ever held in the NT.

“The expansion of BASSINTHEGRASS is fantastic for the local Darwin community, who will not only see the tourism benefits from an expanded festival but also now have even more music and entertainment to experience themselves.”

The first release tickets will go on sale prior to Christmas.
