CLEANING windows while abseiling down the side of high rise buildings is not everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s exactly what Darwin window cleaners Martti Berezjuk and Shane Ford have been doing for the past two weeks.

The daring duo work for Darwin business Unicorn High Access Maintenance and Cleaning and have been hoisted up on ropes to give the windows and facade of Darwin’s iconic Paspaley Building a good spring clean.

Unicorn High Access Maintenance and Cleaning owner Jayson Woodbridge said rope access work is seasonal, with most of their jobs booked throughout the Dry Season.

Along with his employees, Mr Woodbridge also has his rope access qualifications, and said there is never a dull moment on the job.

“It takes your breath away, but you do get used to it when you do it day-in, day-out,” he said.

“I’d say we’ve got the best views in Darwin, especially when we’re working on some of the high rises in the city – it’s the best feeling in the world when you’re up there.”

Mr Woodbridge said his employees work two-hour stints when on rope access jobs, with weather conditions an important factor.

“If we get winds over 15-20km/h we stop, and we start very early in the morning to avoid the heat in the afternoon,” he said.
