SPORT Beams on track for Magpies

- SAM EDMUND

DAYNE Beams’ shock move back to Collingwood is still alive with four days left to strike a deal.

The Brisbane Lions remain in the dark.

However, figures familiar with the situation expect Beams to be in black and white before Wednesday’s 8.30pm trade deadline.

No official trade talks have yet taken place between the two clubs, with Lions chief executive Greg Swann this week describing the ongoing speculation as “reheated soup”.

“We can’t say any more because we don’t know. Nothing has come of it so far so we’ll just wait and see,” he said.

Beams is contracted at the Lions until the end of 2020. He is yet to formally request a trade, but the deal to get him back to Collingwood is being worked on behind the scenes by the Magpies.

It’s understood Collingwood won’t offer players in exchange and is instead keen to send draft picks to the Gabba.

The Pies have selections 18, 51, 56 and 57 in next month’s national draft.

Beams recently declared that he would see out his contract and then perhaps seek a move back to the Pies.
